I'm No Robert van der Molen (Or, Someday My Prints Will Come)

I, too, taught English at a two-year school,
at several universities in the adjunct pool,
dressed the part: looking and acting cool.
But I’m no Robert VanderMolen.
I’ve written and written poems out the ass,
most revealing attitude, some a bit of class,
many just plain out there, obscure, or crass.
But I’m no Robert VanderMolen.
Robert VanderMolen is a real poet, you see.
Not because he is better at writing than me,
not because my rhymes are any less poetry.
Only because he’s been published.
Robert VanderMolen’s picture’s on a book,
on a dusty shelf hidden away in some nook.
He’s yours for a buck fifty, or free for a look.
Only because he’s been published.
One day a beautiful soul looking for a sign,
may find it in a cheap book by fate’s design,
but the words of wisdom will never be mine,
unless my poetic ass gets published!
