May 11th marked Kaspar's first public appearance since joining our family. Because of his sickly, anemic state, he required a lot of tender loving care, TLC, and as such, had been in and out of the VW hospital. When not "hospitalized, he was quarantined to our garage where I labored exhaustively on his interior, his pop top, and adding a new tent canvas and fold down cot.

His first adventure was a drive up to Safety Harbor, FL, on May 11th to attend the annual Hippie Dash, a festive fundraising run put on by Goodwill. Kaspar was part of a static display of 51 vintage Volkswagens of just about every model. Though we took pains to dress him up for the occasion, it turned out that he was way underdressed when compared to the others in attendance. We'll be ready next year!

The jaunt was 150 roundtrip miles, and Kaspar performed them surprisingly well. He displayed unexpected pep and provided a very smoothe ride, holding his own on the highway. Way to go, Kaspar!
